Why did AVG become corrupt?

There is no other AV software installed, why would I need any if I have AVG, and I've used it for many successful years now. As I say, all working now, but just surprised that AVG had suddenly gone faulty on me… Just a minor thing, when I click the 'Clear' link you posted, I get the follwoing error message.

AVG faulk popup

A few days ago I noticed that some web sites I visited became very sluggish. My WebMail taking 3 minutes to login rather than a usual 10 seconds. Other sites also slowed down. I used CCleaner, Glary utilities and MalWare Bytes, even did a fill FireFox refresh - no difference. I then tried to do a scan with AVG. That's when I discovered that AVG wouldn't even open! No matter what I tried, it just would not work, I simply got a 'control panel' pop up onscreen, but totally blank with a green swirling arrow.

Anyway, removed AVG from laptop, tried websites, absolutely perfect! So, reinstalled AVG again, and all now fine. What made AVG go corrupt in the first place?

Thank you for writing back to us, Stephan.

Even though you're using the basic version of Malwarebytes, we'd like to inform you that it will have a few processes running in the background. You can check this from Task manager > Processes.
Hence, we recommended that you uninstall it. After uninstalling the Malwarebytes program, please keep monitoring the situation & if the issue resurfaces, please let us know. We'll check & assist you accordingly.

Interesting, I have checked with 'task manager', &  'whats my computer doing', and nothing from MalWare, unless I physically activate a scan.Still, all good at moment, thank you for your input…

Hello Stephen,

We're sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you.
We request make sure that there is no other antivirus software installed on your PC. It is generally not recommended to use more than one security solution on a single system. They will compete for resources, which may result in slowdowns, crashes/corruptions or in no protection at all.
Furthermore, please check & remove any old traces of AVG present in your PC using our Clear & Remover tools.
After the performing the above actions, please keep monitoring the situation and if the issue resurfaces, please let us know. We'll check & assist you accordingly.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused, Stephen.

We requested you to make sure that you don't have any other antivirus software installed on your computer, because you mentioned that you used Malwarebytes to scan your computer for malware. As Malwarebytes is an antivirus program, we'd recommend that you uninstall it from your computer.
Also, try accessing the Clear link using an alternate web browser & check if you've able to access it.
Keep us updated.

MalWare Byte is the free version, so is only 'active' when I instruct it to do a scan, it is not permanently 'live'. Interesting you class it as an AV programy, I always considered it to have a singularity of purpose to remove 'malware'.

Oh, and good tip about trying another browser to open the 'Clear' link, opens just fine in Chrome. I use to be interested in 'why' quirks like that happen, but I'm too old now and just want things to work without thingking about them LOL…
