Windows 10 pro system lockups

Since I am still getting the problem with my PC I have to ask why Task Manager currently tells me that there are 4 instances of AVG Antivirus running, one of which has also opened AVG Tools. Advice I got from the Microsoft Community suggested that I should get rid of AVG packages because of their load on the system. When I find that I cannot access the system the only clue is a solid red light, which I suspect is telling me that the system is in a loop.

Thank you for providing the screenshot, Murray.
Multiple instances of AVG Antivirus will occur when installation of the program initiated multiple times or any virus scan initiated from the program.
Could you please restart your PC and check the status with AVG services running on Task Manager?

Hello Murray,

We'll certainly look into this & help you.
Initially, please let us know whether you're referring to the update of your AVG programs or the Windows Update of your computer.
Also, tell us if you made any recent changes to your computer using your AVG TuneUp & AVG Driver Updater programs.
Awaiting your response.

Ever since the latest major updates my PC has been locking up randomly, sometimes even when I have been in the middle of keying into an application. I have done all I can to ensure that there is paging space on the main disk drive. I run AVG Tuneup whenever the system locks up, and also run the deep scan on AVG Internet Security… I have AVG Anti-Track installed.

Can anyone help me to identify what what is causing the lockup? When it occurs I remove power and switch on again. If the system actually wnet down I would get log data on the fault, but this way I get nothing!

All help gratefully received!

Murray

Thank you for the clarification, Murray.

Initially we'd like to inform you that AVG is not causing this issue.
We request you to check if there are any Windows updates available.
If available, please uninstall all your AVG programs and initiate the windows update. Kindly check if the issue persists after the update.
If you wish to know the exact reason for this issue, we recommend that you contact the Windows support team directly.
Thank you for understanding in advance!

I have restarted the PC, signed on and left it to complete startup. When Task Manager was opened it showed exactly the same number of occurences of AVG Antivirus as in the screenshot. This suggests to me that there is something odd about the startup procedure. Please instruct me on how to display it so that I can send you a screenshot of it. Alternatively I could send you the Applications and System logs saved when startup has completed.

Please find attached the Task Manager snapshot

Thank you for your reply. I had never thought it possible that AVG software could be responsible. My reason for putting the question to you was that the Windows user forum has failed to come up with anything helpful - all they ever do is talk about how to set up for the logging of data follwing a system crash… I will try that route again, in the hope that this time someone might listen!

Thank you for providing the screenshot, Murray.

Akhil, the installation of AVG Internet Security did not complete. I ahve tried several times to reconnect, using the new case number from your last emaik. Each time it has failed. I am called for lunch, and will check back for a new connectyion in a few minutes

Murray, we will have to analyze why there are multiple instances of AVG services.
Hence, we have sent an email instruction which will help you to get connected with our additional support.
If the email is not found in inbox do check in spam and junk folders.

I was referring to the major Windows 10 update a few weeks or even months ago to version 2004. If Driver updater comes up with Windows updates updates as it it did recently I went to Windows Update to install the updates. If it comes up with updates to drivers for hardware or firmware I let it complete the installation. I let AVG Tuneup correct all the problems it finds.

I should have told you that my PC is Lenovo 64 bit and has 8 Gb of RAM.
