The latest AVG internet security update on 02Jan17 caused my PC to freeze instead of sleeping.
I can hear the fan continue to run and the processor light continues to flash but hitting the windows key has no effect and I have to power down and restart…
I have it set (in Control Panel) to sleep after 10 minutes inactivity - worked before the update and worked when I uninstalled AVG. When I reinstalled AVG it stopped sleeping again but freezes instead.
The same happened in mid Nov16 after an AVG update - that time a failed AVG uninstall sorted it !
Any ideas much appreciated.

AVG Guru

Thanks for the help. I uninstalled AVG using the AVG_Remover tool and confirmed that everything was gone. I then rebooted again and reinstalled AVG Internet Security 2016 using the latest exe file. Without AVG installed the computer sleeps and wakes normally (as set in control panel - power options) but with AVG installed, it still freezes at the point it should sleep - the monitor goes black but the fan and processor lights continue.
There are no error messages and just a black screen so no screenshots. My only option is to power down and restart.
