Windows 8 has completely gone off the deep end!

Hi Kevin, I have replied in your another post. (https://support.avg.com/answers?id=906b0000000D4QFAA0) Please refrain from posting multiple threads. Thanks.

I installed AVG Performance on my HP Pavillion g-6 w/ Win 8 as OS. In performing its initial scan of my hard drive, it rebooted to repair the Main HD. It froze at 27%. Now Windows wants to do a System Restore. I have Backup Software on a Toshiba Canvio Connect ll. When I installed that device, it told me to create a Recovery Disk. This disk has ability to boot w/UEFI and not. When I boot w/UEFI, it becomes stuck on a command prompt. When I boot w/o UEFI, system tells me that it is not a bootable disk. The EZ Restore software on the external hard drive is telling to find a *.cat file that can be used to restore computer OS. When I Googled this *.cat file, I directed to AVG's Community Support page. Any ideas that will help me reboot this computer, w/o me having to do a complete Reset
