Hi Zbynek,
I have reinstalled Windows 8.1 now, after losing earlier windows 7 files. My question is why Windows 7 files (in particular the restore points) were permanently deleted after avg free update? More importantly, how much safe, as well as effective, avg free would be if I again go for it for Windows 8.1?
Thanks, Ibrar

Hi community. I am not a computer expert, and come from a biology background. I have been using avg free on my pc with windows 7 professional 64 bit for years, and it was running perfect. During early last week or so, avg got an update. Accepting it and restarting my pc brought a disaster; my pc stumbled to restart and started behaving abnormally. I used to go back to a windows restore point at instances to fix any problems, but I discovered that this new update deleted all restore points! Most of the softwares did not work afterwards. I noticed huge increase in empty hard disk space, adding confidence in my belief that many, or even most, of the windows files were permanently deleted. My colleague, an expert, told me that the only solution was to reinstall windows as the damage was irrecoverable. Now I have installed windows 8.1, 32 bit. Getting back to the point where I was before windows crash will take few more days.

Some blogs on internet advocate avg free for windows 8. What has happened was unfortunate, but would I be inviting bad fortune if I install avg again, or it should be safe to do so now? Is there anything special I need to pay attention to when installing or updating avg free? I definitely don't want to run into trouble again, so please suggest what is the best option available. Thanks.

Hi Ibrar,
AVG doesn't delete you restore point, only way that can happen is by chosing it in AVG PC Tuneup.
Thanks
