Windows XP - "Setup is being restarted" loop

@Balasubramanian Thanks for the reply but my computer's symptoms don't appear on that page. There is a screenshot of the symptom on this page about halfway down: [SOLVED] windows boot fix | Tech Support Forum Please note that the solution in that case was to completely reinstall Windows and try to recover the data files. I can boot Windows and use it normally if I rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\avgidsdriverlx.sys to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\avgidsdriverlx.sys.old (following the advice on | AVG). I have discovered by trial and error that I only need to disable that file to be able to boot into Windows (I am writing this reply on my affected PC). AVG seems to be working except for Identity Protection. However, I would prefer to have AVG running as it is intended to as the problem could recur next time a new version of AVG is released.

I have used AVG Free for years and I've been very happy with it until the start of April 2015. When I turned my computer on instead of booting up Windows XP displayed a message saying "Setup is being restarted" with a number of dots after it. Suspecting that AVG was responsible I searched on AVG's site and found instructions on how to disable AVG from starting during boot. This fixed the problem instantly. However, when I reinstalled AVG Free 2015 my PC worked fine for a day, rebooting normally. The next day the problem had come back! I am now on the third occurrence of the problem and it takes a lot of typing at the Windows Repair command prompt to fix it each time. Is there a way to fix this permanently or do I have to wait for an update to AVG Free 2015? If there is no fix I will have to reluctantly uninstall AVG and use a different product.
