Happy DayToday! Windows7 Backup is now working at same time as AVG Internet Security! Thanks to remote assistance from AVG support staff Umai and Thuya. It took an hour or so but Umai managed to get Backup working and he indicated that this and other problems are likely caused by a corrupted operating system (about 4 years since installation). So I need to reinstall operating system. But at least I can complete a safe backup in the interim. My sincere thanks to AVG support for their assistance and offer of a free remote assistance to help me resolve this issue! I would happily consider a paid remote assistance next time I have problems.
Hello Paul. Sorry for the delay in response. I would request you to open "RUN" by pressing Windows key along with R and type as cmd and hit enter. You will get the command prompt opened and in that type this command "sfc /scannow" without the quotes and hit enter. The sfc /scannow command will scan all protected system files, and replace corrupted files with a cached copy that is located in a compressed folder at %WinDir% \System32\dllcache. If the issue persists please do let us know. Thank you.
You are most welcome Paul. I really appreciate your patience and efforts. Please try it in Safe Mode and I wish that it should work. Please feel free to get our assistance if it is needed. Thank you.
Thanks for advice and offer of support. I solved my W7 problems by upgrading to W10. I suspect that if I had reinstalled W7 that would have solved it too, but I think that would have been a riskier option. Nice to hear from Worrier Queen confirming that I am not the only person to have experienced these problems. Learnt a lot too!
I have a very similar problem, my toshiba laptop was running fine until I installed the same version of AVG 2015.as Paul a couple of weeks ago. Even before it finished installing it came up with the same error message "the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)."
When I closed that window AVG still installed so I thought it was all fine. But lwater hen I restarted the computer it came up with the same error message attached to cmd.exe and userinit.exe. Altho Windows still starts it mostly has a black screen with no apps etc showing. When it does start up and display the desktop when I attempt to start any app that uses cmd.exe (e.g. IE).
Lookling up the internet wasted enormous amounts of time as the error can be caused by many factors. I ran scannow and the first time it came up with lots of errors the first time but was clear after that altho the problem persisted. Because I installed the latest updates of windows I thought it might be that or my Nvidia card (as apparently geforce experience causes this same problem, but I don't have geforce experience installed).
It was only when I came to this page that i realised the similarities with Paul's problem and uninstalled AVG. Voila, my computer is back to normal with all apps working fine but with NO antivirus installed. Your uninstall recommends to keep the web protection which I did and my computer works fine with this so whatever is your problem it has something to do with the latest install of identity and/or email protection.
I run a toshiba Satellite laptop with an Intel(R) Core™ i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30GHz and Nvidia graphics (latest driver 341.44 although it failed with the previous driver as well as updating the driver was one of the many things I tried to fix the problem.
I like AVG and would prefer to stay with you but i can't operate my system without an anti-virus so any help you can provide as speedily as possible will be gratefully appreciated.
Problem started following AVG 2015.0.6125 upgrade for Internet Security. Windows7 Backup application could not start due to internal error 0x80080005. After various failed efforts I removed AVG Internet Security using their removal tool when in safe mode, restarted and was able to complete a successful backup. I then reinstalled AVG 2015.0.6125 and had same problem. Tried temporary disable of AVG but that did not let backup run either. Have curious message at laptop startup: csc.exe unable to start correctly 0xc0000142. Could try other backup software but I suspect this issue is causing similar problems with other windows applications like troubleshoot. Hoping I just need to change some AVG or control panel settings to fix this.

Update - I was wrong, Windows Backup still only works when AVG Internet Securiety is disabled (incling firewall), but at least I know the problem is that my OP is corrupted and that it is time to reinstall it.
Tried the system scan as you suggested. sfc.exe would not start correctly in normal mode, so I ran it in safe mode and it ran successfully, but my problems with running backup persist. Also When I successfully do a backup while AVG IS is disabled I still am not able to backup the system - backup fails unless I exclude a backup of the system. Not sure what else to try before resorting to reinstallling Windows7. There is a microsoft update KB2952664 which always fails to install. I thought I would try installing it in safe mode. Thanks for your suggestion and interest, greatly appreciated:)

PS Most importantly I run windows 7. Finally I'm not sure if this helps but cmd.exe works fine with AVG 2015 when starting in windows safe mode.
