Won't open protection tab

I downloaded AVG about 2 weeks ago and all was fine. Doing scans after switching on the computer etc. Yesterday I've noticed its switched to AVG zen (which i don't need or at least I don't think I do!) and its not scanning at all or at least if it is its not telling me its completing/ed a scan. Also the icon on the bottom toolbar has diappeared.

I've tried to open the protection tab and it won't open. (the others performance, provacy and identity and web tune up all open as normal.

I've opened it in the control panel and run a "fix" which has made no diffence. I've tried to uninstall it  and it comes up you need to unistall AVG protection 1st but theres no sign of that in the control panel.

I've reached the end of my very limited technical knowledge. Please Help to sort this out in VERY simple language!

to download and run the AVG Remover tool.
Please select the AVG products which are shown in the remover tool window and then start removal process.
After the remover tool process is successfully finished, restart your pc.
After the restart,  manually delete the AVG Remover folder in the C drive of Mycomputer.
After that, reinstall your product and you will be fine.
