AVG opening itself after todays update

Hi Please help.

Today AVG updated and now everytime I restart the pc or wake from sleep it opens the AVG window without me asking it to. It has also done it a couple of times when just opening Chrome browser. It never did this before todays update.

I am using Windows 10 on a laptop.

I have “silent mode” activated which stops popups but that doesnt help and has been that way for ages.

Please, my son has autism and differences are VERY hard for him and this has upset him. Why suddenly is AVG opening its control window every single time and is there any way I can stop it? And can somebody report this to support because the website wont let me email support as I am not a paid user.

Please help

Alex

Just to add, I have manually updated both Chrome and AVG (because Chrome tabs opening seems to trigger it sometimes) and it is still happening, however my other laptop has the same versions of Chrome and AVG on and its not happening on that one?? I have seen there is at least another person getting this today over on reddit posts. Please help by reporting it to AVG or if AVG reads this please please fix thanks.

I’m having the same issue. it just keep turning on for no reason, over and over again. I have silent mode on and when I went into privacy settings there wasn’t a box to turn off offers (as the support article on this site suggested). I’m very frustrated and this is the kind of issue that will get me to stop using this app.

I have noticed yesterday and today, including after restarting, that AVG opens repeatedly. I select the X to close it, it opens back up within a minute or so.

Thank you both for confirming that its not just me. My AVG seems to suggest it hasnt updated since 7th Oct which seems odd, so maybe its Chrome updating today that has caused an incompatability. But please if anyone knows how we can tell support to get it fixed asap please help

Same thing here, what is the problem? How does it get fixed? Win11 with Firefox; every time I open a new tab the AVG app activates. Unworkable for me. . . .

No idea whats causing it as supposedly the AVG version is from 7th Oct but its only happening today and it happens on wake-up before even any browser is activated so although opening chrome tabs (and your firefox) does seem to trigger it, its not just them as at startup nothing else is running with AVG, so it must by AVG causing it. We just need to somehow let tech support know. Does anyone have a paid premium sub that they can use to report the issue please?

Agree with your assessments, I do not have paid support, sorry. I find if I minimize to the task bar the screen interruption no longer takes place; at least I don’t see it which is the bigger problem. Half hour so far of no screen interruption . . .

Have you tried uninstalling and reistalling to see if that sorts it at all?

There is a special offer on the free version for tech support for only $1 for a year, so if we all pay that and open support tickets/chats to try and let them know this is a problem (I have just done this myself). The more reports they get the more likely they will be to reckognise it as an issue and act on it.

I have not tried uninstall / reinstall, can’t take the time at the moment. I’m hoping to hear of a fix or work around to avoid doing that. . . .

Cant uninstall myself due to it being on my autistic sons pc so I cant get at it. I worry that they dont know to actually fix it if not enough people have it and are reporting it :frowning:

I am deleting this post as it was a response to a troll so lets just leave the issue as an open problem needing to be acknowledged and fixed (please) by AVG

Again people please ignore the comments of the troll and focus on the software problem thanks

Its worth mentioning that apparently Avast is the same software as AVG they are just reskins of each other and there is a big thread over on the Avast forums about this happening so it seems to be a big issue I just dont know if the devs are actually aware that its a software problem rather than user error and thus would then start fixing it. Anyone who can, please please report it so they know its a bigger issue

I seem to have fixed the issue by uninstalling and reinstalling.

I thought it had fixed itself with an update about 2 hours ago as it was no longer happening but now its happening again :frowning:

Doug is it still fixed or was it temporary please? Thanks

I too am having this annoying issue, please advise how to cure it.

So far, so good. The Network Inspector popped up this morning when I woke my laptop up, looks like something I can turn off if I want to. But the main “home page” is not popping open every 30 seconds like it was before the reinstall.
