I use AVG AntiVirus Free. There isn't a window for that icon, it's just an icon that appears on the taskbar that I can't close.
Screenshot:
Sometimes when I start my computer up, Something called "CAvgTrayIcon" appears in the task bar and can't be closed out, even with task manager. It doesn't have a window, it's just an icon in the task bar I can't close. Any way to get rid of it or will AVG need to be updated to fix this?
I have done this on my machine, and it works. For whatever reason, AVG just needs to boot once after the system services to complete whatever process it was trying to complete. Once that happens it seems to work fine when loaded before system services.
Hello Patrick,
Thank you for waiting patiently.
To analyze the issue further, I need to submit your concern to our senior technicians along with other diagnostic logs. I have sent you an email with steps on how to collect and upload the data required for analyzing your issue. Please check your inbox and spam/junk folder as well.
If you open up task manager and click [end now] the program said it was not responding and I clicked [end now] again and that worked for me. I checked and AVG process was still running and the avg icon in the tray was also still running properly.
Hope this helps.
Any further suggestions?
Same issue on Windows 10. Extremely annoying.
I understand the inconvenience caused, let's work together to fix this issue. Please share a screenshot of that icon/window to assist you further and also let me know the AVG program which you have installed on your computer. You can post the screenshot here on your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Best regards,
Alok.
I have read some of the suggested remedies, and have tried using AVG Clear twice. This works by rebooting the PC into Safe Mode, then supposedly removing every little bit of AVG from my hard drive.
As I say, twice I have carried out this procedure, and twice it appears to have removed all of AVG.
But when the PC is next booted up, cavgtrayicon reappears on the taskbar.
What, if anything, is AVG doing to find and fix this annoying fault?

I too have the minor but annoying problem of the cavgtrayicon appearing on my task bar immediately following PC bootup. This started several weeks ago. Yes, I can get rid of it by using Task Manager, and "ending program". But this shouldn't be necessary.

Hello, Billy.
Since you are not the author of this post, I could not find your correct email address. Could you confirm if your email address is registered with this domain @gmail.com or @cfl.rr.com?
Open AVG, click on MENU, then click on SETTINGS. On the left, select the TROUBLESHOOTING tab. Look for the checkbox marked "Load AVG Services only after loading other system services" and put a check in it. Now click OK at the bottom to save. Close AVG and reboot. When you reboot, the program icon on the taskbar should not be present. If this is the case, you can now do the same again, and UNCHECK the box. Reboot to make sure the icon does not return.

Anyway, in the options for AVG Internet Security, there is a choice of whether or not to allow a tray icon & the default is to allow it. Change that.
If you look through all the settings & can't find it, you could always rerun setup - I promise you it WILL come up in there.
Same issue on Windows 10. Extremely annoying.
So I have been looking for the email, but as of yet have not seen it. Could you please resend it so I can forward you the logs?
Hello Billy,
I am sorry to hear that the issue persists. I have emailed you the steps to collect error logs from your computer. Please send us the log files, this will be analysed by the senior team and contact you via email with a solution.
